T. Rex mastermind and frontman Marc Bolan was killed in a car accident on September 16, 1977.Bolan helped herald in the glam rock movement in the early 1970s with his hit “Bang A Gong (Get It On),” which appeared on his classic 1971 release, “Electric Warrior.” Bolan’s popularity faded in the mid-1970s as the glam craze wore off in the U.K. He was beginning to enjoy a resurgence in popularity when a car being driven by his friend Gloria Jones struck a tree while she was driving Bolan home from a bar. Bolan, who was less than a mile from his home, was killed instantly.
