The classic 1960s variety show “Shindig!” premiered on CBS on September 16, 1964. The show was hosted by Los Angeles radio disc jockey Jimmy O'Neill, who created the show with his wife Sharon Sheeley. The show was produced by a man named Jack Good, who enlisted the help of a house band called the Shin-diggers. They later changed their name to the Shindogs. According to “The Hippie Dictionary” by John Bassett Mccleary, the first episode of the show was actually a dubbed version of the English program “Ready, Steady, Go!” which aired in black and white from London. “Shindig!” helped lay the groundwork for future live music television shows including “Hullabaloo,” “Soul Train,” “Hollywood A Go Go,” “Where The Action Is” and “Happenin’ 68.”
