Leona Lewis hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart with her debut release “Spirit” on April 26, 2008. The album was recorded after Lewis won the U.K.’s “X Factor” in 2006 and includes her breakout hit single “Bleeding Love.”

When the album hit number one, it claimed the top spot from “Troubadour” by George Strait. The album stayed on top for one week before “E=MC²” by Mariah Carey moved into the top spot.

“Bleeding Love” also hit number one on the Hot 100 chart, but was originally penned for singer/actor Jesse McCartney:

"I kept thinking about being in love so much that it hurts. I was away from my girlfriend for four months at the time and I really wanted to [quit] and fly home. I was so in love that it was painful. It was like bleeding, it cut me open,” he told contactmusic.com of the track in 2008.
