T-Boz from the R&B group TLC was born Tionne Tenese Watkins in Des Moines, Iowa on April 26, 1970. She was born with sickle cell anemia and it was predicted that she would not live to the age of 30 or ever have children. T-Boz moved with her family to Atlanta, Georgia at the age of 9. By 1990 she had connected with a teen named Crystal Jones and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez to form a trio named “2nd Nature.” They were signed by LaFace Records, who changed their name to TLC and Jones was replaced with Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas.In his book “The making of Music Moguls,” Jermaine Dupri recalls first meeting them: “They had strong identities like Kris Kross and they knew how to be trend-setters with their sporty cook-girl look.”
