The original cast recording of the Broadway musical "Hair" reached the top of the Billboard 200 album chart on April 26, 1969.The show, with music by Galt MacDermot and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, opened off Broadway in October of 1967 and moved to the Great White Way in April, 1968. The musical featured a hippie aesthetic and themes of drug use, sexuality and protest.The album featured songs like "Aquarius," "Good Morning Starshine" and "Let the Sunshine In." "Hair" took over the top spot from Blood, Sweat & Tears' self-titled album. It held on for 13 weeks, finally relinquishing the number one position in late July back to Blood, Sweat & Tears.
