Soul Duo Sam and Dave recorded their classic B-Side “Wrap It Up” on January 5, 1968. The track was released along with the single “I Thank You” and many critics noted the B-side could have stood as a single on its own. It was the first release from the pair since their iconic hit single “Soul Man” was released the previous year. That track hit number one on the R&B chart and rose to number two on the Hot 100 chart. The A and B-side were the last releases for Sam and Dave on Stax Records before they went on to sign with Atlantic. The legendary soul label cashed in on the releases, however, as it went on to sell over one million copies. Dave Porter continued to work with Stax as a writer with his partner Isaac Hayes.
