Twisted Sister released their debut album “Under the Blade” on September 18, 1982. The album was originally released by London’s Secret Records and was later released in the U.S. by Atlantic in 1985.

The initial release cracked the U.K. albums chart, peaking at number 70, but did not break into the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S. until after its 1985 release. The album’s title track served as its lead single and was originally released by the band in 1979.

The song brought some controversy to the band, as it was cited as objectionable material by the Parents Music Resource Center in 1985. Dee Snider famously appeared before a Senate committee to testify on the nature of the music, explaining that it was actually inspired by guitarist Eddie Ojeda's throat surgery.
