Goo Goo Dolls frontman Johnny Rzeznik was born John Joseph Theodore Rzeznik in Buffalo, New York on December 5, 1965. Johnny was born to Edith and Joseph Rzeznik, who worked as a bar owner and postal clerk, respectively. He has four older sisters. Rzeznik’s father died from diabetes when Johnny was 15 and his mother died one year later. He was raised by his older sisters and after graduating from high school briefly attended Buffalo State College. After dropping out of college he formed the Goo Goo Dolls with Robby Takac. Johnny had previously been in a band with Takac’s cousin. After deals with several indie labels and extensive touring, the band broke through to national success with their fifth studio album “A Boy Named Goo.” The album includes their first hit single “Name,” which rose to number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Name” hit number five on January 27, 1996 and was amidst a cross section of `90s hits including Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” at number one, Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” at number two, “Missing” by Everything But the Girl at number three and L.L. Cool J’s “Hey Lover” at number four.
