INSYS Therapeutics (INSY) is a specialty pharmaceutical company having two drug development platforms, namely sublingual sprays and pharmaceutical cannabinoids, with 1 approved product under each category.

Subsys, approved in 2012, is an opioid analgesic sublingual spray formulation indicated for the treatment of breakthrough cancer pain, and Syndros, approved as recently as July 2016, is an orally administered liquid formulation of the pharmaceutical cannabinoid dronabinol, a pharmaceutical version of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Syndros is approved for use in treating anorexia associated with weight loss in patients with AIDS, and nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conventional antiemetic treatments. The company expects peak sales potential of Syndros in excess of $200 million.

There is yet another Cannabinoid drug candidate in the company’s pipeline with potential in the treatment of Dravet Syndrome, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and Infantile Spasms.

Insys shares are down more than 48% year-to-date and trade around $15.
