Ninth on the list of the richest woment in the world is Iris Fontbona, whose net worth is the equivalent of $13.7 billion. Born in Chile, the
75-year-old Iris Fontbona is the widow of Andrónico Luksic, who built a
fortune in mining and beverages.

When he died of cancer in 2005, the businesses were inherited by Fontbona and their three sons. Fontbona and her children control Antofagasta Plc, which trades on the London Stock Exchange and owns copper mines in Chile. It is one of the largest mining companies in the world.

They also own a majority stake in Quiñenco, a publicly-traded Chilean conglomerate active in banking, beer, manufacturing, energy, transportation and port services. Their other assets include two chains of hotels in Croatia.

She is the wealthiest person in Chile. Iris Fontbona’s philanthropic benefits children in Chile with physical disabilities. Iris Fontbona prefers to keep a low profile except when she is promoting a philanthropic cause.
