Susanne Klatten
Susanne Klatten

Susanne Klatten, who has a net worth of $20.4 billion, is the richest woman in Germany.

Susanne holds almost 50% of BMW along with her mother and brother. They inherited their stake from her late father Herbert Quandt, who had rescued BMW from bankruptcy. A trained economist, she also controls pharmaceuticals and chemicals manufacturer Atlana with a 50% stake.

There had been an unsuccessful attempt to kidnap her when she was sixteen years old. Recognizing that her wealth could sometimes pose problems, she often worked incognito under the name Susanne Kant. It was at such an incognito internship stint at BMW that she met her husband Jan Klatten, who worked there as an engineer.

They have three children. She is one of the biggest donors to the center-right political party, the Christian Democratic Union.
