Heiresses Galore: The 10 Richest Women On Earth

Alice Walton
Alice Walton

The second richest woman in the world is Alice Walton, who is worth $33.8 billion. Though her net worth increased $1.5 billion from that last year, she slipped one place to number 17 among the world’s richest billionaires to in 2017.

However, she retained her second spot among the world’s richest women. The only daughter of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton, Alice has not taken an active role in the family business but is the wealthiest woman in America, thanks to her share of Wal-Mart stock and hefty dividend payments.

In 1989, Alice Walton struck and killed Oleta Hardin, a 50-year-old mother of two. No charges were ever filed in that case. The 67-year-old is now one of four Walton women who are together worth $49.5 billion.

She is known to be the biggest philanthropist in the Walton family. She led the Walton Family Foundation’s founding of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and serves as chairwoman of the museum’s Board of Directors.
