Ten Largest cannabis producing countries

Jamaica
Jamaica

Jamaica is ranked seventh among the world’s top marijuana producing nations. The island country is the largest Caribbean supplier of illicit cannabis to the U.S. and other Caribbean islands.

Cannabis plays a major role in the nation’s public image and is linked to cultural touchstones such as Rastafari, an Abrahamic religion, and reggae music.

Cannabis was introduced to Jamaica in the mid-nineteenth century by indentured Indian servants brought by British colonists. Many of the terms used in cannabis culture in Jamaica, including the term ganja, are based on Indian terms.

Despite being used in Jamaica for over a century, cannabis is illegal in Jamaica. However, possession of small amounts of cannabis in Jamaica was reduced to a petty offense in 2015.
