Ten Largest cannabis producing countries

Colombia stood in fifth position among the largest marijuana producing countries in the world.

Cannabis cultivation has been traced in Colombia since the late colonial period, when hemp was grown for industrial fibers.

In 2012, the Colombian government officially decriminalized the possession of up to 20 grams of cannabis. Three years later, the Colombian Supreme Court ruled that cultivation of up to 20 cannabis plants was allowed in the country.

While cannabis is illegal in Colombia for public consumption and commercial sale, it has been legalized for medical use in 2015 and guidelines have been established for dispensaries.
