Alanis Morrisette released her smash album “Jagged Little Pill” on June 13, 1995.

The album was officially the third studio effort for the singer, though it represented a significant artistic change. She had released two pop albums in her native Canada, where she was a teen star. But for “Jagged Little Pill,” Morrisette teamed with veteran producer and songwriter Glen Ballard to create an LP with more adult themes and with an alternative edge.

The album includes her signature hit tracks "You Oughta Know", "Ironic", "You Learn" and "Hand in My Pocket."

“Jagged Little Pill” hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart in October, claiming the top spot from Hootie and the Blowfish’s “Cracked Rear View.” Morrisette held on for two weeks before she was succeeded by Mariah Carey and her “Daydream.”

While speaking with Billboard in 1995 Alanis said that her uncharacteristically angry track “You Oughta Know” came about quickly, saying: “When I was writing it, it was so subconscious.”

She adds: “I wasn’t aware what was coming out of me. The floodgates were just wide open.”
