1984 - U2's ‘Unforgettable Fire’ Released

U2 released their fourth studio album “The Unforgettable Fire” on October 1, 1984. The album followed their smash hit 1983 release “War” and includes several of their best loved tracks including “Pride (In the Name of Love)” and the title track.

Much of the album was recorded at Slane Castle in County Meath, Ireland. For the album, they connected with producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, who helped them create a more atmospheric tone than the harder hitting “War.”

In Niall Stokes’ book “U2: Into the Heart,” Bono says he had to overcome the aggressive sounds on “War” noting, “There is so much anger there and the effect of that is to tighten up the voice . . . but on “The Unforgettable Fire” I learned to relax again. I learned to sing again.”
