1967 - Joan Baez Arrested
1967 - Joan Baez Arrested

Folk singer Joan Baez was among the more than three dozen protesters arrested at an anti-Vietnam War rally on October 16, 1967. The event took place at a military induction center, where a couple hundred protesters were attempting to block the building. Baez and others sat in front of the doorway, singing, trying to prevent draftees from getting through.

The event was part of "Stop The Draft Week" in the U.S., with rallies held in many cities. Baez was an outspoken opponent of the war. Her 1967 album "Joan," released a few months before her arrest, featured "La Colombe," a French anti-war song about that country's involvement in Algeria.
