President Joe Biden has signed an executive order to help bring home American citizens held hostages or wrongfully detained in foreign countries.
The E.O, signed on Tuesday, authorizes federal departments and agencies to impose financial sanctions and visa bans on people involved in wrongful detentions of Americans abroad.
The executive order, titled "Bolstering Efforts to Bring Hostages and Wrongfully Detained United States Nationals Home," is a follow-up of the 2020 Robert Levinson Hostage Recovery and Hostage Taking Accountability Act.
