The Weekend recently released a short clip, teasing new music for the soundtrack for James Cameron's upcoming Avatar: The Way of Water, the long-awaited sequel to 2009's Avatar.
"12.16.22," The Weeknd wrote on Twitter. The 12-second clip displays the film's logo and reveals the release date as well. A choir, supported by drum beats, runs in the background.
The film's official account retweeted the Weekend's post and uploaded a clip of the account following the Weeknd on Twitter. "#AvatarTheWayOfWater x @theweeknd," the account wrote.
Jon Landau, the film's producer, also stepped in, posting a picture with the musician, and wrote, "As the Na'vi [the fictional language of the film] say, 'Zola'u nìprrte' soaiane Avatar'… Welcome to the Avatar family."
"Avatar: The Way of Water" is poised to open to at least $150 million domestically when it debuts in theaters next week. Early tracking indicates that the opening weekend figure could ascend to $175 million or more.
