atai Life Sciences (ATAI), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, Tuesday announced positive topline results from Beckley Psytech's Phase 2a study of BPL-003, a synthetic intranasal formulation of 5-MeO-DMT benzoate, in patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD).
In January last year, atai had taken 35.5 percent ownership in Beckley Psytech by investing $50 million.
Results from the study showed that a single dose of BPL-003, in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy, induced meaningful and sustained reduction in alcohol use and heavy drinking days (HDDs) in patients with moderate to severe AUD. Further, the drug candidate was well tolerated with no serious or severe adverse events reported.
Beckley Psytech expects to report results from the Phase 2b study of BPL-003 in treatment-resistant depression by mid-2025.
