Weir Group Plc (WEIR.L) Monday said that it has entered into a deal with Schwing Stetter GmbH, a German original equipment manufacturer, to develop advanced pump technology for mining backfill operations.
The Scottish mining technology company said that the partnership with Schwing Stetter, an expert in the field of designing and manufacturing hydraulic piston pumps for concrete applications, aims to adapt proven concrete pumping systems to meet the specific needs of the mining industry.
According to Weir Group, while hydraulic piston pumps have a long-standing history in construction, their use in mining, particularly for pumping cementitious backfill brings with it a new set of technical and regulatory challenges. The operational environment in mining is significantly more demanding, requiring equipment that can withstand high pressures, abrasive materials, and continuous duty cycles, the company added.
Weir Group said that the goal of this latest partnership is to optimise hydraulic piston pump design and performance for underground mining conditions, ultimately providing more efficient, reliable, and industry-specific pumping solutions.
