Spectral AI, Inc. (MDAI) has been awarded $31.7 million in funding from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to accelerate development of its DeepView System, an AI-driven imaging technology designed to improve burn wound assessment.

The company will contribute an additional $9.7 million toward development costs, bringing total support under its BARDA contract to nearly $55 million to date, with the agreement valued at up to $150.0 million.

The DeepView System uses proprietary multispectral imaging and artificial intelligence to help physicians quickly determine whether burn wound is likely to heal or require surgical intervention. This capability is particularly critical in mass casualty burn incidents, where rapid triage can save lives and optimize use of limited medical resources.

CEO Vincent Capone emphasized that the BARDA partnership strengthens efforts to secure FDA clearance for commercial distribution, while also supporting new features such as total body surface area mapping. The technology is being developed for use in emergency departments, trauma centers, and burn centers, both for routine care and as a medical countermeasure.

MDAI has traded between $1.04 and $3.21 over the past year. The stock closed Wednesday's trading at $1.20, down 6.25%. During the overnight session the stock rose to $1.63, up 35.83%.
