The Bee Gees scored a number one hit single with their signature track “Stayin’ Alive” on February 4, 1978. The track was released as part of the soundtrack to John Travolta’s hit film “Saturday Night Fever” The Brothers Gibb penned the song at the request of the film’s director, Robert Stigwood. Stigwood initially balked when he heard the song’s title, as he wanted it to include the phrase “Saturday Night.” The band, however, refused to make the change and Stigwood agreed to keep the title “Stayin’ Alive.”When “Stayin’ Alive” hit number one, it claimed the top spot from "Baby Come Back" by Player. They held on at number one until February 25, 1978 when their brother Andy Gibb claimed the top spot with his track “Love Is Thicker Than Water.”
