1965 - Fugazi's Guy Picciotto Born

Fugazi guitarist Guy Picciotto was born in Washington, D.C. on September 17, 1965. He had a relatively privileged childhood, attending the elite Georgetown Day School as a teen. It was during this time that he connected with his career-long collaborator Brendan Canty.

The pair became deeply entrenched in D.C.’s budding hardcore punk scene and played in a string of bands together from the age of 16. They rose to local prominence as members of the group Rites of Spring, who are now considered predecessors to the emo genre.

Picciotto eventually joined Fugazi in 1987 after Canty had connected with former Minor Threat frontman Ian MacKaye. Initially it seemed as though the group was completed without Guy, but MacKaye formally invited him to join after appearing with the band as a backup singer on their second gig.
