1966 – ‘Good Lovin'’ Hits #1

The Young Rascals reached the top of the singles chart with "Good Lovin'" on April 30, 1966.

The song, written by Rudy Clark and Arthur Resnick, was originally recorded in 1965 by R&B singer Limmie Snell, and then became a modest hit for the Olympics.

The Rascals recorded it in February of 1966. It appeared on their self-titled debut album, which also included versions of such soul classics as "In the Midnight Hour" and "Mustang Sally," along with a cover of Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone."

"Good Lovin'" took over number one from "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration" by the Righteous Brothers. It held on for a week, before being replaced by the Mamas and the Papas' "Monday, Monday."
