Guitarist Wayne Kramer was born Wayne Kambes in Detroit, Michigan on April 30, 1948. He is best known as a founding member of the seminal Detroit-rock band MC5 along with singer Rob Tyner, Fred "Sonic" Smith, bassist Michael Davis, and drummer Dennis Thompson.Kramer was initially inspired to play guitar after hearing a boyfriend of his mother’s whom he claimed “sang like Elvis.” It was after hearing Chuck Berry’s electric guitar, however, that Kramer became hooked:“When I heard that sound when I was nine years old that was it. When I was a teenager the fiercest competition was who could play Chuck Berry solos note for note,” he says in the book “Grit, Noise, and Revolution: The Birth of Detroit Rock 'n' Roll.”
