Infamous Who drummer Keith Moon made headlines on April 30, 1976 when he paid nine New York City cab drivers $100 each to block off the road below his hotel window. The notoriously destructive rocker then proceeded to launch the entire contents of his room out the window. The incident found Moon banned for life from the Holiday Inn, Sheraton and Hilton chains, in addition to the illustrious Waldorf-Astoria, from which the entire band had been ejected earlier that month. Moon had, in fact, been on a destructive rampage during the band’s stay in New York that spring. They were first ejected from the swanky Gorham Hotel in Midtown West after Keith got drunk and began launching cherry bombs at police officers outside his window. They were then banned for life from the Waldorf, and Moon relayed the story to the audience at the Fillmore East with little remorse saying, “I blew the door off the hinges and grabbed my luggage.”
