Ice Cube hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart with his third studio release “The Predator” on December 5, 1992. The album followed Cube’s 1991 album “Death Certificate” and includes his classic singles “It Was a Good Day” and “Check Yo Self.”When the album hit number one, it claimed the top spot from “The Chase” by Garth Brooks. Ice Cube held on at number one through December 11, 1992 when the soundtrack from “The Bodyguard” claimed the top spot. “It Was a Good Day” peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and Cube spoke on the track with Blender, saying:“The inspiration was my life at the time ... I was at the top of the rap game. It was the summer of ’92 and I was in a hotel room, really in a state of euphoria. I had all the money I had dreamed of. I was in a good frame of mind. And I remember thinking, ‘Okay, there’s been the riots, people know I will deal with that. That’s a given. But I rap all this gangsta stuff – what about all the good days I had?”
