Starting off the countdown at number ten stands Torre de Cali (“Cali Tower”) in Cali, Colombia. Torre de Cali is 46 storeys high with a roof height of 183 meters (600 feet), making it the third tallest in Colombia after the 196-metre, 52-story Torre Colpatria and the 190-metre Centro de Comercio Internacional in downtown Bogotá. Completed in 1984, Torre de Cali was designed by architect Jaime Velez. Construction on this skyscraper began in 1978. The developer was Julian Echeverri and structural engineer was Enrique Martinez Romero. It is said that around twenty people died when the 37th floor of this building was being constructed. Torre de Cali currently houses a 4-star hotel and is a landmark building in the city, dominating the skyline.
