#6 Torre Colpatria, Colombia

Ranking sixth on the list of the tallest buildings in South America is the Torre Colpatria (“Colpatria Tower”) situated in Bogotá. Torre Colpatria is the second largest skyscraper in Colombia with 52 floors amounting to a height of 196 meters (643 feet). Also known as Edificio Colpatria, this building is also located in the international center zone of the city of Bogota. The architect who designed this building was Oscar Jaime Obando. Construction on the tower began in 1973 and was completed in 1978, when it became the tallest skyscraper in Colombia. The tower was surpassed by BD Bacata as Colombia's tallest building. But the public observatory on the top floor is still the highest in the city. The headquarters of Colpatria Bank are located in the building, and many other banks and financial companies also have offices here. During December, the lights on the top have the colors of the Colombian flag, a tradition that has been going on since 1998.
