Also in the race with Santiago for having the most skyscrapers in South America would be Bogotá, Colombia. It houses another building currently under construction, the second tallest in South America: BD Bacatá (Bogota Downtown Bacata). Architecturally topped out but awaiting completion, Tower 1 of this skyscraper rises 260 meters (853 feet) in height and comprises 67 floors. Tower 2, also topped out architecturally, measures 216 meters (709 feet) and has 56 floors. The two towers of the skyscraper will house apartments, offices, stores, and a hotel spread over 1.2 million square feet. The skyscraper complex has been designed by the architecture firm Grupo Alonso Balagúer. The unique facet of the development of this building is that it is the first skyscraper to be financed by crowdfunding, a method in which private individuals invest in shares of the building prior to its construction. It is the first skyscraper to be built in Colombia in 35 years.
