Again in Venezuela, in the city of are Caracas, are the twin towers of Parque Central Complex ranking third among the tallest South American skyscrapers. For many years now, these have been architectural icons in this city. The Parque Central Complex is a housing and commercial development, implemented by Centro Simón Bolívar. Both the East Tower and the West Tower are identical: 225 meters (738 feet) in height with 59 floors each. The West Tower of the Parque Central Complex was completed first, in 1979. Subsequently, the East Tower was completed in 1983. From 1979 to 2003, they together held the title of tallest skyscrapers in Latin America until they were overtaken by Torre Mayor in Mexico City. Today Parque Central towers are the tallest twin buildings in Latin America. Since the complex was opened in 1983, Parque Central has been the main landmark in Caracas. It houses many cultural and government institutions, and is adjacent to the cultural district of museums. The antenna of the East Tower is lit by red, yellow, and blue lights, the colors of Venezuela.
