Bananarama hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with their track, “Venus,” on September 6, 1986.The song, which was featured on the trio’s third album, “True Confessions,” also topped the charts in six other countries. “Venus” was a last-minute addition to the album. The production teams that worked on the LP were resistant to the tune because they felt it wouldn’t make a good dance song. Bananarama persisted, however, and the song was recorded. Dutch group Shocking Blue also had a hit with the song in 1970.
