Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider testified before Congress about the Parents Music Resource Center’s (PMRC) desire to implement a warning about explicit content in music. Snider, along with other rockers including Frank Zappa and John Denver all testified against the proposed censorship measures. The PMRC had been founded in part by Al and Tipper Gore and proposed a system in which albums would be clearly marked detailing the nature of any profane content. Dressed in jeans, a t-shirt and with a bright yellow perm, Snider appeared before the congressional panel to speak out against the labels. In the documentary “Metal: A Headbangers Journey,” Snider said he immediately accepted the offer to speak on behalf of metal music, noting, “Now my view of it, when I heard it, was they wanted me to carry the flag into battle. Hell yeah.”The hearings later produced the “Parental Advisory” stickers still in use.
