The Libertines released their debut album "Up the Bracket" on October 14, 2002. The band formed in London in 2001, centering around Carl Barât and Pete Doherty. Their first single was released in June, 2002. It got little airplay, but the band started to get noticed, earning comparisons to the Strokes, the White Stripes and the Hives. "Up the Bracket," which includes the title track and the single "Time for Heroes," was produced by the Clash's Mick Jones. While they were starting to make a name for themselves in the indie scene, the Libertines saw some trouble in the wake of their debut. Pete and Carl began to feud, with Pete eventually being charged with burglary against his bandmate. Pete would eventually serve six months in prison on drug charges. Even with the drama, the Libertines released their sophomore self-titled album in 2004.
