The Libertines Release Their Debut Album Nine Years Ago

1974 - The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines Born
1974 - The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines Born

Natalie Maines, the lead singer for country band the Dixie Chicks, was born on October 14, 1974 in Lubbock, Texas. Her father was country musician and producer Lloyd Maines, who played with the likes of Guy Clark and Butch Hancock, and would go on to win a Grammy for producing the Dixie Chicks' 2002 LP "Home."

Natalie did some backup singing before joining the Dixie Chicks in 1995. The band, comprised of sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison, had lost its lead singer, and 21-year-old Natalie took over vocal duties.

Their first album with Maines, "Wide Open Spaces," was released in 1998 and would eventually go on to sell more than 10 million copies, helped by the strength of singles "I Can Love You Better" and "There's Your Trouble."
