1972 - Joe Cocker Arrested
1972 - Joe Cocker Arrested

Rock legend Joe Cocker was arrested on October 14, 1972, while on tour in Australia. Cocker was taken into custody along with some members of his touring group in an Adelaide hotel. Authorities found them with marijuana and the singer was forced to spend a few hours in jail before bail could be worked out.

Deportation proceedings were started with the press lashing out at the rock star - one TV reporter editorialized, "If I had my way Joe Cocker and his drugged up group would be airlifted straight back across the Pacific." Still, Cocker went on with the Adelaide show, starting the gig 20 minutes late but getting rave reviews.

He went on to do a show in Melbourne the following week. However, that turned out to be the end of the tour. Cocker was arrested again after the show; he and his wife were involved in a fight in the lobby of a local hotel. A deportation order was signed and the rest of the scheduled shows were canceled.
