1976 - Bob Seger's 'Night Moves' Released As A Single

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band released their rock classic “Night Moves” as a radio single on December 7, 1976. The song later served as the title track to Bob’s ninth studio album, which to rose to number eight on the Billboard 200 chart.

The single climbed to number four on the Hot 100 chart during the week of December 11, 1976. At the time, Rod Stewart held the top spot with “Tonight’s the Night.” The Spinners were number two with “Rubberband Man” and the Bee Gees were number three with “Love So Right.”

According to songfacts.com, Seger was inspired to write the track after seeing the film “American Graffiti.” He notes: “I came out of the theater thinking, Hey, I've a story to tell too. Nobody has ever told about how it was to grow up in my neck of the woods."
