Australian pop duo Savage Garden reached the top of the U.S. singles chart with "Truly Madly Deeply" on January 17, 1998.The song, written by band members Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones, was featured on their self-titled debut album. The LP also included the hit "I Want You."Savage Garden would return to the number-one slot two years later, when "I Knew I Loved You" reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100. "Truly Madly Deeply" took over number one from the Elton John single "Something About the Way You Look Tonight"/"Candle In The Wind 1997." After a week's reign, it was replaced by "Together Again" from Janet Jackson.
