Smashing Pumpkins released their second full-length studio album, “Siamese Dream,” on July 27, 1993. The album vaulted the Chicago grunge rockers into international success, debuting at number ten on the Billboard 200 chart. During the recording sessions for “Siamese Dream,” the band suffered significant internal strife. Frontman Billy Corgan and bassist D’Arcy both suffered from emotional breakdowns and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin would disappear for days on drug binges. While speaking with Spin in 1993, Corgan was upfront about the band’s struggles: “We’ve become extremely jaded as a band. And I think it’s really sad. I don’t think there’s anything cool about it. We’ve lost perspective about how lucky we are and how wonderful a position we’re in.”The album’s first three singles, “Cherub Rock,” “Today” and “Disarm” all placed in the top ten on the Billboard Modern Rock Songs chart.
