1965 - The Beatles' 'Rubber Soul' (U.K.) Released

The U.K. edition of the Beatles’ sixth studio album, “Rubber Soul,” was released on December 3, 1965. The album was released three days later in the U.S. and features many of the band’s best-loved tracks, including “Drive My Car,” “Norwegian Wood” and “In My Life.”

“Rubber Soul” hit number one on the British charts later that month, bumping the soundtrack to “The Sound of Music” out of the top spot. The Fab Four held on through February 19, 1966 at number one in the U.K. before “The Sound of Music” soundtrack reemerged as the top album.

The group’s label at the time, Parlaphone, released a double A-side single of “We Can Work It Out” and “Day Tripper” in the U.K. on the same day that “Rubber Soul” was released. Those tracks reached number one in the U.S. and U.K., respectively. Both were recorded during the sessions for “Rubber Soul” but were left off the album.
