On December 3, 1986, a lawsuit was filed against Judas Priest and CBS Records alleging the band was responsible for the 1985 suicide attempts of two fans. The two young men had followed a marathon stint of drinking, smoking pot and listening to Judas Priest with the carrying out of a suicide pact. One of the boys was killed, while the other survived. The parents alleged that a subliminal message in the Priest song "Better By You, Better Than Me," which is featured on their "Stained Class" album, prompted the tragedy. The trial, which took place in 1990, ended in the suit being dismissed. Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford would later say that if he had put a subliminal message onto the album, it would have said "buy more of our records."
