Eleven people were killed at a Who concert on December 3, 1979.A rush to get into Cincinnati's Riverfront Coliseum led to a group of fans being trampled. The band knew nothing of the tragedy until after the show was over, and the concert went on as planned. However, Who frontman Roger Daltrey had to repeatedly ask fans to stop pushing. The show had a first-come, first-served seating arrangement, which encouraged fans to enter the venue as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, only a few doors were opened to let concert-goers into the Coliseum, which forced thousands of fans to cram into the limited entry space. As reported in Mark Wilkerson's "Amazing Journey: The Life of Pete Townshend," the Who guitarist would later say that if the tragedy had happened inside the arena, "I would never have played again."
