1978 - Trina Born

Rapper Trina was born Katrina Laverne Taylor in Miami, Florida on December 3, 1978. She grew up in a Caribbean-American household as her father is of Dominican descent and her mother is originally from the Bahamas.

He parents separated when she was just a girl and Trina was raised between households in Liberty City and in Pembroke Isle, Florida and attended Miami Northwestern Senior High School as a teen. During her time at the school she began writing hip-hop tracks, one of which caught the ear of Miami legend Trick Daddy.

Trick invited her to guest on his hit single “Nann N*gga,” which helped elevate her profile and score her a deal with Slip-N-Slide Records. Despite her success with Trick, she later admitted having little creative control on her debut LP “Da Baddest B*tch” telling Crusade magazine:

"Everybody was like we got this beat, we got this, we got that, we want you to get in there and write to this track, write to this song, write to this topic."
