Bob Marley, his wife and his manager Don Taylor were all shot by unknown gunmen inside Marley’s Jamaica home on December 3, 1976. The reggae icon and his band the Wailers were rehearsing at his home at 56 Hope Road in Kingston when two white Datsuns carrying at least seven gunmen burst through the gates, spraying the house with bullets.Marley was scheduled to perform in the following days at a free concert called “Smile Jamaica” that was organized by Jamaican Prime Minister Michael Manley. The booking led many to believe the shooting was politically charged. He suffered minor injuries to the arm and chest and appeared at the concert without the Wailers, who went into hiding. At the time of the shooting, Bob was in the kitchen eating a piece of grapefruit during a band break. A single bullet pierced his chest just below his heart and passed through, hitting his arm but causing damage to his internal organs.
