Pink Floyd accidentally released a giant inflatable pig balloon over the city of London on December 3, 1976. The 30-foot-long inflatable was created for the band for inclusion in the artwork for their “Animals” album, which was conceived by artists Hipgnosis. The giant pig was moored at the Battersea Power Station in London and photography for the album cover commenced on December 2. Harsh weather moved in overnight and the pig broke loose of its moorings, drifting freely over southeastern England the following day. It was later found by a farmer and was deflated against the side of a barn at East Stour Farm in Godmersham, Kent. The farmer was reportedly furious at the incident, claiming that the oversized pig had frightened the livestock on his farm.
