George McCrae scored a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his track “Rock Your Baby” on July 13, 1974. The song served as the title track from McCrae’s 1974 album and was initially sent to radio in May of that year. The track was penned by Harry Wayne Casey of KC and the Sunshine band and was originally intended for his group. While speaking with Billboard, Casey explained how McCrae ended up with the song: “One night we went into the studio to cut a whole finished track but the vocals (were) way to high for me to sing. Now we already had a record out at the time (“Sound Your Funky Horn”) so we decided to give the song to somebody else.” “Rock Your Baby” claimed the top spot from "Rock The Boat" by The Hues Corporation and was succeeded by "Annie's Song" by John Denver.
