Following the release of “Freeways,” their sixth studio album, earlier in the year, Bachman–Turner Overdrive announced that they were breaking up on August 13, 1977. Actually, only Randy Bachman was leaving the band. And even though a Bachman was staying behind - drummer Robbie - an agreement with Randy forced the band to change its name to BTO. Randy returned in 1983, but Robbie refused to participate, citing the animosity caused by disputes over credits and money. However, guitarist Tim Bachman returned to the band for its mid-80s incarnation. He had left in 1974. He did not stick around for another version of the band, which formed in the late 1980s, but by then Robbie Bachman had returned.
