While Spain was ranked sixth overall in the survey, an astounding 97 percent of Spanish respondents said they would personally accept people fleeing war or persecution into their country. 18 percent of respondents said they would accept refugees into their home, while 82 percent said they want their government to do more to help refugees. But Spain’s government has been quite slow to take in refugees. In October 2015, Spain agreed to relocate 14,931 asylum-seekers by 2016 under the European relocation scheme. It had offered only 130 resettlement places in 2015.
